   Over two thousand years ago, the mighty Romans developed a simple system for building roads. A marvel of its time, some of these are still in use today.  The system consisted of a well-compacted base covered with a tight fitting cut stone. This produced an excellent and economical roadway that remained virtually maintenance free in all types of weather.   The Romans used natural cut stone for their surface; today's modern paving stone is manufactured in a high-strength ”no-slump” concrete plant, producing units in many shapes and colors. From its inception, the geometric paving system has been aesthetically and structurally superior to old-line concrete and asphalt.   Paving stones come in a large variety of shapes, colors and patterns, offering a perfect integration of both traditional methods and modern design. Precisely manufactured concrete “pavers" can be assembled in a variety of patterns and colors offering architects, landscapers and homeowners a new range of subtle yet imaginative expressions. Paving stones allow designers to emphasis hazardous areas such as vehicular crossings, permanently designated service routes and under ground service facilities.   Because it is a "DRY "process requiring no mortar or curing time, paving stones are put to use immediately after installation. They can be easily lifted, set aside and re-laid as required, allowing access to underground services and leaving no visually disturbing signs or potentially dangerous patches.   IT IS TRULY THE ONLY PAVEMENT WITH A BUILT IN "ZIPPER."
